Dolphins set triumphs in the International Stage; places 6th at the CEBA Int’l Quiz Bee

Out of 64 competing teams around the world, Ralph Mari Maniago (Department of Accountancy) and Iconica De Guzman (Department of Management) took sixth place in the preliminary rounds of the College of Economics and Business Administration (CEBA) International Quiz Bee 2022 that was held virtually from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, last December 6, 2022.

Maniago said in an online interview that their main inspiration for success was the recognition of their Alma Mater, Holy Angel University, on a global scale.

His teammate, De Guzman, added that their mentors never put any pressure on them to aim for a high ranking and that it is more important that they will learn than how well they will perform.

“We didn’t have a driving force behind us, however, since we are competing on behalf of the school, we were motivated to answer the questions as best we could in the hopes of gratifying our mentors, who have given us their full support, as well as the institution,” she added.

When asked about their obstacles during the competition, Maniago mentioned that it was hard for them to communicate due to the threat of internet connectivity acting up halfway through the contest. He also mentioned that the topics covered are broad.

“Despite these obstacles, we managed to get 6th place out of the 64 competing teams. This glory does not belong to us, but to the Holy Angel University and Him,” he affirmed.

Prof. Michelle Estrella and Prof. Loren Aina Trinidad were the advisers of the team.

The University of Technology and Applied, a public university in Oman, organized the said competition intending to promote academic excellence among the participants, broaden their knowledge of the different principles and courses in business studies, gain experience in an academic competition, and provide a present business environment.
