Hear Me

Freeing yourself from the heavy mask you’re wearing doesn’t signify loss; even the stone melts when it can’t take the temperature anymore.

Life is not just exploring within a single side. We have to be flexible to consider all the corners and edges. Various moments where life will play along with you, it is like a wise child that there is no specific way to handle; and when it makes you down in the dumps, wearing your heart on your sleeve does not make you lose the ace.

When you live with a strong personality, most people who know you see you as someone who is self-assured, driven, and not easily fazed or disturbed by others. You are tough and self-reliant. Some people may believe that you cannot be hurt easily — that you can win in war without suffering any wounds and scars.

At times, as you believe you are strong, when you feel your heart sink, even you cannot accept it. When anything knocks you sideways, you don’t want to express it in any way.

At times, as you believe you are independent, you always choose to suffer in silence, even feeling guilt for letting others into your personal matters.

At times, as you believe you are strong and independent, you are blinded to the notion that no one should witness you at your vulnerable times. You tend to forget that your feelings are valid, where in fact, it is not an exaggeration to express how you truly feel; you have the right to perceive any emotion you need.

To be known as a strong individual, a mask is an alluring disguise. The heavy masks that said, “I don’t want you to see me as I view myself,” were filled with fear from judgment. We often put ourselves in an enticing screen of toughness, forcing ourselves to the point where we aren’t even aware that we are torturing ourselves.

Undoubtedly, living in our society where pressure is everywhere is not a piece of cake. With the place we live in, toughness is indeed a need. However, disregarding our own wellness in favor of merely standing up while wearing a mask is like a volcano that is gaining all the heat and could ultimately produce the worst results.

There are individuals who can fight and heal in silence, but a good cry might sometimes be the remedy for our pains. Expressing our rants, shouting our anger, and crying when we want are not signs of weakness. Even the clouds feel better when they finally let go of the heaviness they have.

What inside our hearts may improve and become lighter if we let our emotions and tears flow rather than holding back the weighty ones. Despite what we are going through, embracing our right to emotional expression to produce a delightful sensation of release as well as exhaustion will not diminish our strength. As much as we need, let us let go of the heavy mask that we used to wear that makes us feel bad for expressing our hearts.

We all have our own stories, but let us free ourselves from the tortures that we don’t deserve. If life is already putting us to our limit, don’t make it harder for ourselves and beat it.
