The Luxury We Hardly Reward Ourselves With

Often, we always strive to do our best in our lives. We were pushing ourselves to the limits that accustomed us. Anchored with our goals and life aspirations, we want what is best for us — but are we delighted with that?

Being an accounting student is a challenging feat. It is not all about calculators and the basic operations of mathematics. It exists in owning up the courage to say, “Kaya mo ‘yan!” after all the disappointing scores and endless lecture videos. Indeed, it is tiring and draining mentally, physically, and emotionally.

The battle for this program tests our strength to fight for it—from hard-to-pass exams to the yearly on-boarding examinations. Yet, amidst the demands of this course, the passion to succeed still drives us to continue.

Due to our unending hard work, we often forget to pause and breathe. Sometimes, we gaslight ourselves—thinking that rest is just for the weak. We constantly push our capacity to the limit and do not have more time to rest. It becomes a luxury that we hardly reward ourselves with.

Enduring and sacrificing various moments have been torture; choosing to heal from exhaustion is not bad. Students like us should not be too harsh; our minds must allow this luxury to become a comfort. All our labor is worth nothing if we do not balance it with rest. Save some energy, and do not be a servant of work. After all, we work for our never-ending aspirations, and it would be better to achieve this at our best state.

Consequently, individuals should constantly think that it is okay to rest—it is a part of the process. “Deserve mo ‘yan!” Taking time to breathe should be treated as our achievement. Do not let work consume us; we always come first above anything else. Let rest not be a luxury but a serenity we should always seek.
