SBA lands 1st runner up in the first online U-Days

The School of Business and Accountancy (SBA) bagged the title of the Overall First Runner-up during the first-ever virtual University Days celebration with the theme Ad Infinitum: Endless Legacies, Boundless Victories, held from April 14 to 17. The School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) was hailed as this year’s Overall Champion while the School of Computing (SOC) secured the Second Runner-up spot.

In an online interview, SBA Student Council Chairperson Joshua Liscano stated, “It was a bittersweet moment for us because for three years, SBA was the Overall Champion in UDays. There were momentary self-doubts about where we [fell] short and how we could’ve done better.”

Liscano said that despite the outcome, it was already a big win to see how the Dolphins shared their talents and united virtually in cheering for the SBA Department.

“Despite our situation right now, the SBA Community still managed to show their capacity to be the best that they can be, may it be virtually or not. Hence, this year’s University Days have made us discover so many things about our whole being and taught us to be more united and strengthened as ONE SBA,” he added.

SBA placed in three competitions in the academic category: Ultimate Battle of the Intellectuals, Brainiacs, and Omnicients (UBIBO) – Anne Bianca Torres hitting the gold; TED TALK – Khyrish Canlas placing as first runner-up; and Debate – the SBA team winning third place.

For the E-sports league, SBA won two competitions out of the five events: Online Chess Tournament – John Romvi Manaloto hailing as the champion; and Mobile Legends Tournament – The Cetacean bagging third place.

In the non-academic bracket, SBA attained three gold medals: Supreme Tiktok Challenge, Talent Ensemble Competition, and HAUTAW Season 15 – Azil Marie Fernandez; and two silver medals: Vlogger Hunt – Marion Colina Simon and Music Video Spoof Competition – the SBA team.

As for Mr. and Ms. Holy Angel University 2021, Mr. Jerald Mark Templin was hailed as Mr. Holy Angel University’s second runner-up, with four special awards including Mr. People’s Choice Award, Mr. Photogenic, Mr. Professionalism, and Mr. Best in Streetwear. Meanwhile, Ms. Cayle Valerie Galang was crowned as Ms. Holy Angel University’s second runner-up, gaining three special awards: Ms. People’s Choice Award, Ms. Congeniality, and Ms. Black Beauty.

The official student publication of SBA, The Enterprise, also won three categories at the University Press Conference (UPC). Kyla Ruiza Aquino and Christian Rhic Real both emerged as winners in the Literary Writing and Science and Technology Writing categories respectively, while Quina Zhyrise Capane bagged second place under the Feature Writing category.

The SBA teams for the Talent Ensemble and Advocacy Competition categories were both declared as champions.

University Student Council (USC) President Clarisse Revestir expressed, “There is overwhelming support from the HAU community. [It is] beyond what we have expected due to the limited sources that we have. We thought that we [would] never be able to pull it off given the circumstances. But just like our theme, we are never limited for we can achieve the impossible to mark our own legacies and victories.”
