Dream: The Only Answer

In times of doubt, I tend to ask myself, “Why did I choose this path – why did I choose to take accountancy?”

Reflecting on that thought, I realized it was never a question I had to ask constantly because I already knew the answer.

It is my dream.

When I was young, I had always imagined myself working in an office, and whenever my sister and I would play, I would always pretend to be working in the corporate world.

I carried that dream until I graduated from junior high school. Hence, when I entered senior high school, I was confident to enroll in the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand.

When I started learning accounting, I thought the rest of the journey was merely about journaling transactions – debiting and crediting. I even had a higher grade than expected, which pushed me to continue and pursue a degree in accountancy.

My first year as a college accountancy student was the same as senior high school. I did not feel much pressure because the subjects were primarily general ones close to what we took in high school. However, entering the second year loaded with accounting and business subjects became overwhelming, considering the shift from online to blended learning.

It was then that I started to question myself and my abilities. The experiences I went through opened my eyes to the realities of accountancy. It is indeed challenging. There were plenty of things I had to give up and sacrifice, nights when I chose to study rather than sleep, and times when I had to endure back pain from doing all my tasks. Notwithstanding the challenge, I still enjoy it.

I may have had a lot of doubts and poured a lot of tears, but I still find the light and hope to continue. It may be tough, but giving up was never my option.

To answer my question, I chose it because I wanted it.
