The representatives from the Juris Orbis (JO) of the School and Business and Accountancy (SBA) triumphed at the National Interschool Debate competition at St. Thomas Hall, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, with the theme “Breakthrough: Legal Management Debate Cup,” held in honor of Legal Management Week, yesterday, February 15, at 1 pm.
The team was led by Norieta Faith Riccia Chang, the team captain, with Princess Yvan Malig, Excel John Esguerra, and Mr. Paul Ernest Carreon, their mentor. When asked about their difficulties, they mentioned that they had little time to prepare as the event fell just after the week of the preliminary exams.
The three were given the opposition side in the proposition, “Whether or not the privatization of public utilities in the Philippines will result in improved services and better management,” in an Asian Parliamentary debate style. The positions of Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Speaker, and Opposition Whip were occupied by Chang, Esguerra, and Malig, respectively.
Among the arbitrators is Atty. Mikhail Valodya Tupaz, Atty Donn Joseph Abrazaldo, and Instructor Rodrigo Emil Carreon. Meanwhile, Manuel L. Quezon University was among the only campus participants that joined the event.
