In an official statement released tonight, School of Business and Accountancy – College Student Council (SBA-CSC) Chairperson Ericka Sanchez resigns from her position effective today, July 6.
With this resignation, Vice Chairperson-elect Marie Elizabet Sagum will be appointed as the next chairperson in conformity with Article XIV Section 5 of the 2016 Councils, Organizations, and Publications Manual.
In an interview, Sanchez said, “The time to pursue my dream finally arrived… It’s a different path from my current course.”
“[Right now] my heart is heavy and broken. I feel sad and enraged,” she added.
Meanwhile, Sagum expressed that the council is filled with emotions because of the said resignation. “In all honesty, the moments leading up to this announcement have been emotional for all of us and it has only really [sunk] in now that we’ve announced it to everyone.”
In addition, Sagum pledges for a pro-student council when she steps in as the chairperson. “Pro-student. Always. We must give them the very thing that they deserve: rightful representation,” she added.
Following her resignation, Sanchez stated her official statement as regards this matter.
“The educational system needs improvement. It is enraging to know that a lot of students are being stripped off of their dreams because of the challenges of this pandemic and the continuous impositions of anti-student policies of the administration. This era is opening a lot of doors to everyone so I hope that the school will find in its heart the drive to take on one. It’s important to listen to the voice of the student body as they are the powers of the school. Evaluate and try to be one with the students, little by little. These tiny steps will surely create a better relationship with the studentry. It’s time to finally take on a more open and pro-student mindset.”
Moreover, Councilor-elect Shejanira Arcilla will replace Sagum as the next Vice Chairperson following the vacancy of the latter.
The council is waiting for the official statement of the University Student Electoral Board (USEB) regarding this matter.
