Students from the School of Business and Accountancy (SBA) received their respective merit awards during the 11th Student In Non-Academic Greatness (SINAG) Awards, held on July 16, at Peter G. Nepomuceno (PGN) Auditorium.
SINAG celebrates the non-academic milestones in fields including sports, esports, journalism, uniwide and co-curricular delegations, and organizational leadership of the students of Holy Angel University.
The ceremony began with an opening remark by OIC President Mr. Leopoldo Jaime N. Valdes. Following this, the SBA students secured various awards, proving their excellence and highlighting their resilience and perseverance in different fields, namely:
Sports
Esports
Journalism
Uniwide Delegations
Co-curriculars Delegations
Leadership Awardees
Reign Christine Costas, president of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants and Auditors – United, was among the finalists for the Most Outstanding Organization Leader. Further, Faith Sablaya bagged the recognition of the Outstanding Councilor while Khyrish Canlas secured the Outstanding Senator award. Meanwhile, Bianca Angeline Raguindin and Trisha Camille Montemayor were honorable mentions for the Most Outstanding Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Year, respectively.
The event’s highlight was the Leadership Legacy Award presented to Shejanira Arcilla, former USC President, who is the first recipient in six years.
In an interview with the fifth-year Accountancy student, Arcilla shared her insights about the purpose of the SINAG Awards.
“I think the main goal or aim of SINAG is to acknowledge the non-academic achievements of the students. We have recognition and graduation for academic achievements, but now, we should also highlight the achievements of the students representing Holy Angel University in different universities, [thus, they have to be well-acknowledged],” she stated.
Arcilla then expressed her sentiments about being an organizer and awardee of the SINAG Awards at the same time.
“Actually, I did not expect to receive such awards. I was so shocked. [I just thought], after everything that happened within the whole school year, all I can say that it was all worth it, [the students are worth fighting for]. Also, as a student leader, [I have made mistakes] and all that, and those will be [treated] as learning steps [to learn new lessons]. And, I really appreciate the Holy Angel University and of course, the Office of the Students Affairs for the award. [Just like what I have said, I just thought that] everything we have done for the students was worth it.” the Leadership Legacy Award recipient shared.
Moreover, Arcilla remarked to the Angelite Community to continue to excel. The former USC President added that although the pandemic prevented SINAG from receiving full recognition the past few years, Angelites will once again be recognized for their achievements.
The event concluded with a feast prepared for all attendees.
