Kapampangans eye 65th VDLR coronation

In a eucharistic celebration, Kapampangans observed the reenactment of the Canonical Coronation of the Virgen de los Remedios in its 65th anniversary held at San Vicente Ferrer Parish, City of San Fernando on September 8.

Dubbed “500 Banuang Casalpantayanan: king Saup ning Cruzada, lalung Mipalalaman at Mipatutuan”, the celebration, in line with the commemoration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines, was concelebrated with local Church leaders presided by Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Charles John Brown, the incumbent archbishop of the Archdiocese of San Fernando, Archbishop Florentino Lavarias, and Archbishop Emeritus Paciano Aniceto.

This year’s theme for the commemoration invites everyone to deepen their faith by participating  with the help of Cruzada de Caridad y Buen Voluntad, also known as the Crusade of Charity and Good Will, Cruzada for brevity.

The first bishop of San Fernando Pampanga, Bishop Cesar Ma. Guerrero instigated the crusade to bring equality between the rich and the poor and to fight growing beliefs and principles of socialism and communism.

In his homily, Archbishop Brown challenged the faithful to put actions into the words. He also added that the Church is a church for the little and the poor.

The mass, which was a commencement of the nine-day novena to the Virgin Mary, was opened to only a limited number of attendees due to the threat of COVID-19. Only the Kapampangan clergy, representatives from the government, and the Vicariate of Virgen de los Remedios were allowed to physically participate. All devotees were encouraged to participate online via Facebook and YouTube live streams.

Meanwhile, Holy Angel University has held a Holy Mass in lieu of the Canonical Coronation of Virgen De Los Remedios presided by Fr. Marvin P. Dizon, which was live-streamed on their official Facebook page.
