CSC-SAS, 2 institutions hearten CHME with festive outreach

Taking the lead in embracing the season of giving and the warmth of the Christmas spirit, the College Student Council – School of Arts and Sciences (CSC-SAS) spearheaded an outreach program for the Children’s Home of Mary of the Eucharist Inc. (CHME) in partnership with The Enterprise and HAU Communicators’ League last November 5.

The outreach program catered a total of 25 children where representatives from the three student institutions assisted during the prepared games to engage the beneficiaries.

According to the project heads, CSC-SAS councilors Elisha Manangbao and Sofia Oppus, the goal of this year’s outreach is ‘to do something that resonates deeply with the Filipinos’.

“We wanted to do something close to the Filipino hearts, like what we did last term, [we highlighted] the Kapampangan Arts with Anak Bale-Balayan. We want to continue on that and still capitalize on the Filipino passion. So, [this] -ber months, and knowing us Filipinos, celebrate Christmas [even though it is still] September, so [we made it] an early Christmas Program.” project head Manangbao stated.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Sister Merly—the person-in-charge of the children—she expressed her gratitude to the students from Holy Angel University (HAU) while also emphasizing how this event affected the lives of the children in CHME.

“When there are people like you who visit our place, the feeling of rejection in their hearts’ fulfilled little by little. It gives them the idea that they are important and special too. Even though we tell them they are loved and important, there is a huge difference when it comes to other people.”

“Giving them a little bit of your time, attention, and love, including things they do not have boosts their sense of identity, especially when students like you visit us as you serve as an inspiration for them to study harder and dream bigger,” she added.

The student leaders concluded the program by distributing the gifts to the children, as well as a photo opportunity with them.
