Chapter I: Balancing

“Na-balance mo ba?”

Students at the School of Business and Accountancy regularly stumble upon this phrase on every assignment, quiz, or exam. And naturally, they would have similarities in their sentiments or frustrations on what they have answered on the given assessment. Evident in their facial expressions, you can guess how it went throughout. Some might be on the right and easy flow track, while most were already in the acceptance phase.

No doubt, I would be in the population of the latter. But what do I do when this happens? I reflect. Questions help me grow and learn from my mistakes.

Why haven’t I balanced it? What were the adjustments I haven’t seen? Does it mean that I failed?

As a management student, it is devastating to absorb how failure can lead me to a future I never wanted. Knowing how I pushed myself to make progress, thousands of what-ifs are already in my head. Truly sad to imagine how I built the fantasy of being a professional on the field, yet after reality destroys these walls, all is gone.

Students are oblivious to how they somehow cage themselves inside the lines of yellow paper or on the ink of a pen. Hence, we need to rebuild life outside the numbers of the calculator.

For once, have you asked yourself: “outside these accounting subjects, do I know how to balance my college life? Is there a formula I need to know? What are the adjustments we need to give attention to?”

And do you know the most effective relief after all this battling chaos? The assurance of having a life outside school. Meet your friends, make time with your family, and spoil yourself with the things that you deserve. It is never too late to stand up and try again.

Practicing to perfect the balance is not always written or computerized. It can also be within the person.

The work-life balance is essential for learning that students need to recognize. Maintain character while continuing to step forward. It is vital to touch the ground and acknowledge the little things as much as we are careful with specific details on the subjects’ requirements.

Debit your social life and credit your academic responsibilities when necessary. Start investing your time and effort in something new—something comforting for you. Utilize your capability of balancing college life.

Let all the days of the week run by as to how time permits. Let it continue its cycle, and assess yourself.

For the month ended, have you seen the improvement? Do you know where to adjust for the next month?
